Belfairs members contested their first gold leaf competitions at the weekend with both events producing very close finishes. In the 36 hole strokeplay Southgate-Brown Cleek, countback was needed as 4 players all carded 134, but it was Neil Arends who emerged the eventual winner from Joan Smith, Andrew Nash and Bharat Patel.

In the Winter Pairs final, the unfortunate Nash was runner-up again as he and Kevin Gough lost on the 18th green to the in-form partnership of Jon Howley and Ray Jones.

The Mid-Week medal was no less competitive as Derek Way posted a commendable nett 65 to take the honours from Robin Fagg  (66) and Tony Hayes (68).
