There was an exciting contest on Sunday as Belfairs GC held their weekend medals with the prize being the last chance to qualify for Sunday’s Gold medal.
Chris Shawyer, Graham Carter and Ray Beadell all played quality golf to card nett 66s however Shawyer (20) had the better countback score to claim his first medal of the year and earn a 1 shot cut. Carter’s (20) superb effort was enough for second spot and a 1 shot cut with Beadell (16) third but having the consolation of having already qualified for The Gold Medal.
On Saturday there was a low turnout and also modest scoring for the day’s medal.Alan Pace (18) with a steady 72 just held off the challenge of Alan Berry (14) on 72 to take the day’s honours.
As is customary Friday’s medal had by far the biggest number taking part in the medal. Keith Richardson (23) earned a 2 shot cut in taking the day’s top prize as his nett 66 was a quality effort in the wet conditions. Terry Wise (25) also earned a 2 shot cut with a nett 67, another fine performance in finishing second. Nigel Warder (10) was third with a nett 73.
Belfairs excellent run in the NAPGC Clapham Common Area Final ended as Basildon C proved too good on the day which sees them progress to the National Finals. The team can feel rightly proud in their first year in the competition having got so far.
The Bank Holiday E Dale Jones Mixed Foursomes Competition saw Nigel and Ruth Rickard produce a solid performance to take the top prize with 36 points just eding Tony Hayes and Joan Howroyd who scored 35 points.
