A fine day greeted Belfairs Golf Club for the 52 players involved as they held their Guest Day at the weekend.

Mick Edmunds (4) chose his playing partner well as for once the formidable Edmunds was outshone. His playing partner Barry Williams (5) from Thorpe Hall contributed eagles on the 2nd and 9th as the two players were in awesome form and amassed an incredible 48 points to win the Better Ball Stableford event.

Robert Fagg (18) was partnered by a celebrity in Ray Parlour (18) the former Arsenal footballer and they too had an excellent score of 44 points that they must have thought was enough to take the main prize only to finish second with a score that would have been ample on another day. Matt Mahoney (4) and Richard Hayes (12) amassed 43 points an equally fine effort that was enough for third place.

At the weekend the club also held Stableford competitions. There was a good entry on Friday and a keenly contested event with Bobby Allan in fine form with 37 points from his 15 handicap to grab the days honours. Trefor Williams (19) showed good form to shoot 36 points and finish just 1 adrift of Allan in runners up spot. Steady Eddie Stretch (24) was in fine touch with 35 points and third spot.

Jon Howley’s rich vein of form continued on Saturday as his 39 points from his 8 handicap just edged Mick Edmunds (4) into second place in a rather small entry.
