Local rivalry took centre stage this weekend as Belfairs and Southend golf clubs contested the spring Roger Foreman Trophy. The event was played in the finest sporting spirit and ended in a resounding Belfairs victory beating their near neighbours 12 ½ to 3 ½.
The ladies played their EWGU Trust Stableford on Thursday and in a close finish Jackie Richardson (32 points) took the honours on countback from Sue Meddle (32) and third placed Lorna Steel (31).
In the mid-week competition, captain Frank Howroyd posted a fine gross 77 (nett 64) to add yet another medal to this year’s haul.
Windy conditions contributed to high scoring in the Saturday single stableford, but Chris Shawyer overcame the difficult conditions to score 35 points and take first place from runner-up Barry Meddle (34) and Alex Tindall (29) in third.
