At Belfairs, the fine weather contributed to low scoring and close finishes in last week's competitions.

In the weekend's single bogey event, countback was needed to decide that Mark Duguid (5 up) had just prevailed from runner-up Ray Beadell with Alex Tindell (1 up) in third place.

The mid-week medal was another close affair, but Bobby Allan (84-66) just held on to beat off the challenge of David Watson (89-67) and third placed Michael Flynn (88-70).

The Essex Seniors Team were away to Risebridge and their match produced another nail-biting finale as Belfairs just held on to take the tie 6-5 and earn a home draw against Chigwell or Belhus Park in the next round.

Belfairs members contested their monthly medals at the weekend with the spring weather and return to grass tees contributing to some fine golf.

On Friday, Chris Hindson (92-65) took first place on countback from Bobby Allan (83-95) with Ron Murray (87-69) in third.

By contrast Saturday's event was a runaway win for Baz Patel (76-64) with Nigel Warder (86-73) a distant runner-up and Ian Douglas (87-76) further back in third.

Performance of the week, however,goes to David Bucke, carding a gross 86 for a nett 63, and receiving a well deserved 2 shot cut in handicap. Mark Duguid (90-68) and Alex Tindell (88-69) took the minor placings.

Earlier in the week, Joan Smith (83-76) secured victory in the Vets Trophy winning from Terri Hirons (100-79) and third placed Susan Meddle (96-79).
