Echo report : 7th June, LESLIE WOOD 3rd Round

Round 3 of the Leslie Wood Championship on Sunday saw Belfairs play host to The Burstead. The visitors got off to a flying start in the morning foursomes and overwhelmed the home side to go into lunch 5-0 ahead.  The afternoon singles were a much closer affair as Belfairs made valiant efforts to reduce the deficit and with fine individual performances from winners Kevin Gough, Nigel Warder, Andrew Nash and halves from Steve Mann and Rod Hall, an unlikely comeback seemed possible at one stage. In the end, however, a very strong Burstead team prevailed to take the tie 11-4 and now face The Essex in the quarter-final.
