A Message From Our Captain

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all members and visitors to the Belfairs Golf Club website. I’m confident you’ll find everything you need here, so please take your time and enjoy exploring all we have to offer.
At Belfairs, we are fortunate to play on a highly regarded public course that provides a terrific test of golf for players of all abilities. Ongoing improvements will continue throughout the year, including extensive maintenance to the greens. Thanks to the course’s excellent drainage, it recovers quickly from adverse weather and is usually back in superb condition by spring. Although the course is easily walkable, don’t be deceived by the wide fairways on the front nine— the tree-lined, narrower back nine presents a variety of engaging challenges.
In addition to our regular club competitions, we enter teams into several county and national events, offering plenty of opportunities to represent Belfairs in competitive golf. Off the course, we also enjoy a lively social calendar, including quiz nights, race nights, and live music evenings. This coming year is Belfairs centenary and we have several celebratory events planned.
You’ll find the Captain’s Bunker to the right of the green on the 1st hole. I hope all members will support my chosen charity, Grief Encounter, by contributing £5 for the year to cover each visit to it!
We warmly welcome new members of all ages and golfing abilities. Together with my vice-captain, John Brennan, I hope you will join us, enjoy our course, and experience the friendly hospitality that Belfairs is known for.
Best Regards
Jon

CAPTAIN'S DRIVE-IN: Sunday 30th November

Members, well-wishers and passers-by  on Sunday could have been forgiven for thinking they’d taken a wrong turn and wandered onto the set of a sci-fi blockbuster. There, standing proudly on the first tee was Jon Stannard - our very own new Captain and fully armed Starship Trooper.
Despite the occasional difficulty bending at the waist  (space armour is notoriously unforgiving over a tricky downhill putt) the Captain battled bravely to hit his drive 207 feet from the pin.
By the end of the day, one thing was clear: golf may be a traditional sport, but there’s always room for a little interstellar flair. And if aliens are watching Earth, at least they’ll know we take our weekend competitions very seriously.
Good luck to Jon and vice-captain John Brennan in the forthcoming Centenary year.

LADIES CAPTAIN DRIVE-IN: Thursday 4th December

The Ladies Captain’s Drive-In burst into life with dazzling 1920s flair as members arrived in feathered headbands, pearls, and elegant flapper-style dresses.
After a warm and spirited introduction, the incoming Ladies Captain struck her opening drive straight and true, finishing just short of the green to enthusiastic applause.
We wish Sue Meddle every success in the forthcoming Centenary Year.

ROGER FOREMAN TROPHY: 2nd November 2025

The Roger Foreman Trophy is a biannual greensomes competition contested between Belfairs and Southend Golf Clubs. The Autumn renewal of the fixture took place on Sunday, with Southend Golf Club hosting the event.
In another closely fought encounter, Belfairs secured four and a half points from the final five matches to edge past Southend by a margin of just two points — a result that once again underscored the evenly matched nature of the two sides.
As always, the match was played in excellent spirit, with both teams enjoying the enduring camaraderie between the clubs as tales of wayward drives and missed putts were good-naturedly recounted in the clubhouse bar.
