ROGER FOREMAN TROPHY 26th March 2023
Played bi-annually, the Spring challenge for the Roger Foreman Trophy was competed again by 64 members from Belfairs and Southend Golf Clubs on Sunday. The wet conditions did nothing to dampen the competitive spirits of both teams, but it was Belfairs that eventually emerged victorious over their near neighbours in a hotly contested match, winning by a score of 8 ½ -7 ½ .
The outcome reflected a closely fought battle with both sides displaying impressive skills and determination. Ultimately, it was the last pair of father and son Richard and Nicholas Mounsey that just proved to be the difference, as they managed to secure victory in the final game.
The match was, yet again, an exciting and memorable event, showcasing the competitive spirit, sportsmanship, and skill of both teams
JUBILEE CUP Sunday 5th March 2023
The Jubilee Cup is a competition open to all Essex golf clubs. Teams will compete initially in a league format with 2 points being awarded for a win and 1 point for a half. Successful teams in the league will progress to the knockout stage (and then R16; QF: SF; Final).
On Sunday, Belfairs commenced their Jubilee Cup campaign when our 12-man team visited Risebridge Golf Club. The format of six singles played off scratch and three 4BBB pairings produced an intriguing match with the advantage continually changing. It was the hosts, however, who eventually emerged the 6-3 victors and claimed the 2 points for a win. Well done to all the team for a closely fought match.
Belfairs winners:
Singles: Steve Tucker
Pairs: Simon Lawrence & Mark Gopy; Terry Copping and Colin Parker.
In addition to Risebridge our opponents in Division ‘A’ are:
- Langdon Hills (home 2nd April);
- Three Rivers (away 14th May);
- Top Meadow (home 5th June)
- Stoke by Nayland (whom we do not play).
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2022
Belfairs celebrated a new Club champion when Adam Joyce overcame the challenge of Strokeplay champion Jon Howley, 3 & 2 In a pulsating final played in the best sporting tradition. Adam and Jon received their respective awards from Steve Bucke at the Men’s Supper and congratulations to both on a successful year. |
CAPTAIN'S DRIVE-IN 2022
Members and guests gathered on the first tee on Sunday to celebrate Baz Patel’s inauguration as Belfairs captain. After a humorous introduction from Andy Nash, the drive-in began with IPC Steve Bucke, followed by President Hugh Brown, Vice-Captain Joan Howroyd and finally, Captain Baz Patel. A duffed first attempt was quickly overlooked and our new captain duly rose to the occasion with a mulligan that landed 40ft from the pin. All Belfairs members wish Baz and Joan an enjoyable and successful year.
